Educated in both civil and common law, Laureen is qualified to practice in Switzerland and New York—a duality that has shaped her global perspective. Early in her career, she perfected her expertise on the arbitration team of a prominent U.S. law firm. It was there, amid high-stakes international disputes, that she first encountered litigation funding. Clients in need of third-party support to pursue meritorious claims sparked her curiosity, and soon, a new professional calling emerged.
Intrigued by the potential to merge finance with the law, Laureen transitioned into litigation funding. Today, she is deeply passionate about this niche yet high-value asset class. She has a clear objective: to help make litigation fundingaccessible to a broader audience by breaking it down into practical, strategic considerations for investors.
At Blue Lakes, Laureen plays multiple roles. As Partner, she is actively involved in the firm’s strategic development and in identifying and shaping investment proposals. Laureen also leads Blue Lakes' efforts to develop and expand its litigation finance opportunities. In addition, she serves as in-house counsel, overseeing the firm’s compliance and regulatory frameworks to ensure operational rigor and transparency. She plays a central role in the fund due diligence and onboarding process, bringing legal precision and strategic insight to every investment the firm undertakes.
Outside her professional responsibilities, Laureen enjoys a lifelong passion for horses and regularly competes in show jumping events. She is currently based in Houston, Texas.
My primary focus at Blue Lakes is twofold: as Partner, I contribute to shaping our strategic direction and investment decisions, in particular relating to litigation funding. I also serve as in-house counsel, where I oversee compliance and regulatory matters. I’m deeply involved in fund onboarding and due diligence, and I work closely with fund managers on product structuring—ensuring each offering is tailored to meet the specific needs of our clients while remaining aligned with our legal and operational standards.
I was drawn to litigation finance because it sits at the intersection of law and finance. Early in my career, I saw firsthand how third-party funding could level the playing field for meritorious claims. It combines strategic thinking, legal expertise, and financial acumen in a way that creates tangible impact, both for claimants and for investors.
My approach is rooted in disciplined legal analysis and strategic risk assessment. I believe in rigorous case evaluation, a strong emphasis on enforceability and recovery, and close alignment of interests between funders, claimants, and counsel. Each investment must be defensible not just on its legal merits, but also in terms of its economic rationale and execution pathway.
